Constructions of Collapse and Desire Short teaser video. For shows, please email.
We are warned of a world in collapse. Yet within our safe havens, buildings still stand. Nature still grows. But for how long? Perhaps for eternity. Perhaps only a few years. Some form of collapse feels inevitable, yet distant. In fear, we can dream: what if, when the constructions of humanity and nature collapse, they regroup into something curiously beautiful—surviving through dynamic modulation, bending to the forces around them? Constructions of Collapse and Desire reimagines reality through 3D sound, immersive computer graphics, and real-time audiovisual performance. It transports you into a surreal world where surrounding structures are set in motion, torn apart, and rebuilt..
The work explores sonic and visual architecture in a journey though from Oslo's Barcode District, out to a rural train station and eventually onto a snow-covered forest path leading into the night where the sensory presence of the spirits of lost children live on, playing in a frozen world that gradually warms with their presence.
The work was originally motivated by the global disasters of 2023, but I soon realised that I wanted to capture beauty and not death. Supported by The Norwegian Government Grants for Artists.
The audio is composed in 3D ambisonics, the visuals are 270 degrees and created with 3D LiDAR scans, video and computer processing. The real-time performance uses MaxMSP and Jitter.
