Here is the live electronics 'Dream Divers' 2-hour sleep concert (aka Natasha Barrett: Live Electronics; Miriam Akkermann: Flute). Our debut was an immersive performance over a 3D loudspeaker array in Barcelona on the 4th July. This recording is only in stereo, but listening on headphones gives an idea of the experience. Some of the materials were pre-composed 3D ambisonics which I mixed on the fly, but most of what you hear is the result of my new live sound processing, sampling and real-time composition with the live flute source.
The concert was a commission from the Lullabyte project investigating the effect of sound on sleep. The concert was a collaboration with the Phonos organisation.
As we know, sleep isn't unconsciousness. It is a state of altered consciousness. Some of the audience were wearing EEG headbands to monitor their sleep and dreams. I'm hoping to get hold of the data and see how it correlates to our performance.
For now I can share the two-hour live concert where we slowly ease the music from the present into a surreal world of dream diving.
Sweet dreams!
